Acclaim games announces North American release date

Acclaim Games announced the official launch date for the North American version of The Chronicles of Spellborn which is scheduled for release on November 27, 2008. The North American version of Spellborn will be commercialized as a free-to-play game with an optional premium service to access further content and gameplay.
As with all of Acclaim’s games, Spellborn will be free to download and play once players have registered for an account. But those players who want to access advanced features and unlock extra game content will have the option to purchase a premium service that will offer several payment options.
“I’ve been playing and testing the game, and I’m having a fantastic time. The only thing that’s missing is our gamers! I can’t wait until November 27th to greet them all in the amazing world of Spellborn,” says David Perry, the USA Director for Spellborn.
North American publisher Acclaim Games will announce the details for their closed beta test in the coming weeks. The closed beta version will include several advancements in the class system, the quest architecture, the fame system and the combat gameplay as well as improvements on art and general game mechanics lifting the game onto a new level of gameplay experience. Players who wish to register for a free account can sign up now at http://spellborn.acclaim.com.
Acclaim will also be servicing the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and South America.

Spellborn awarded Most Innovative Game from GC 08!

The good folks over at TenTonHammer published today their GC 2008 Awards list and Spellborn was rewarded with the prestigious Most Innovative Game Award from the show! Along with the Award, TTH writes:
We thought the fantasy MMORPG category had been done to death until we encountered The Chronicles of Spellborn last year, and the game continues to surprise us. The spindly character models, intuitive gameplay ethereal backdrop, and aura of mystery surrounding the storyline once again left us spellbound for Spellborn.
That was not all, Spellborn was also given a Honorable Mention as regards the Art Direction, making GC 2008 the best Games Convention edition Spellborn ever attended!

Release date for Spellborn

One of the most eagerly awaited online role-playing games is approaching the final stretch in its development. The German, English and French versions of The Chronicles of Spellborn are scheduled for release on November 27th, 2008 in Europe. In preparation of the release, the innovative fantasy MMORPG has started into the next phase of the closed beta tests along with a large content patch Wednesday, 17th of September..
The update brings along substantial advancements in the class system, the quest architecture, the fame system and the combat gameplay as well as improvements on art and general game mechanics lifting the game onto a new level of gameplay experience. During the upcoming weeks, developer Spellborn NV and publisher Frogster will invite more selected registered community members into the closed beta tests. A detailed beta and release schedule for The Chronicles of Spellborn will be announced shortly. Interested fantasy adventurers can register via the brand new beta registration on www.tcos.com to get the chance to have a look at the game before the actual release.

Spellborn Announcements : PvP Servers, Fame increase and the Adept

During the Games Convention in Leipzig, we announced some changes in specific gameplay features of The Chronicles of Spellborn. In order to make sure everyone is aware of them, let’s recap what has happened:
1. PvP Servers. Yes, Spellborn will be released with 2 different ruleset types of servers: there will be PvP servers and PvE Servers.
2. Fame Increase. We decided to increase the amount of fame rewarded by killing hostile NPCs or animals.
3. Furyhammer name changed to Adept. You knew the Furyhammer. Well, now meet the Adept!

Within Temptation publishes Live-DVD

The world-famous gothic-rock band Within Temptation is publishing a monumental concert recording under the name "Black Symphony" on September 19th as double-CD and double-DVD. Prior to the publication, the Dutch metal rockers will release the single "Forgiven" on September 12th as outcoupling in a 5-track premium edition. The single-pack will contain the previously unreleased live bonus tracks "Hand Of Sorrow" and "The Heart Of Everything" as well as a live version of the Spellborn video song "The Howling" in addition to the title track.
Within Temptation recorded the Live-DVD on February 7th 2008 during their giant show with the Metropole Orchestra of 60 concert musicians and a classic choir of 20 singers in the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam. The band around front woman Sharon den Adel celebrated the event with precision fireworks and a gigantic light show in front of 10,000 enthusiastic fans from all over the world. These and several high-profile duets with Keith Caputo of Life of Agony and Anneke van Griesbergen (ex. The Gathering) induced the British Kerrang! Magazine to call it “the best show on earth". In addition to the concert recordings, the live DVD includes an abundance of bonus content such as detailed "Behind the Scenes" material and a 10-day countdown documentary of the preparatory phase.
Accompanying the launch of the fantasy online roleplaying game The Chronicles of Spellborn, the Dutch developer and publisher Frogster Interactive will revive their cooperation with Within Temptation. The partners have planned several online activities for fans, along with the launch of the new Spellborn website in September. Moreover, an information leaflet of the band will be integrated in the Spellborn box version at launch. The trailer for the current DVD "Black Symphony" was already shown on the Spellborn booth at the Games Convention two weeks ago. It is available as streaming video on www.within-temptation.com and on YouTube. The joint Spellborn video "The Howling" is also still accessible after a short registration on www.the-howling.com.
