Issue twelve introduction
Another fine TCoS Newsletter has reached your mailbox! Last weekend we held the very first The Chronicles of Spellborn Fanday. 9 members of our community have been invited to stop by at the Spellborn HQ to get to know each other and most importantly: have fun with a recent internal build. Below you’ll find reports written by two of the attendees. Watch out for more details about the Fanday on TCoS.com!

We, of course, also added all our regular items for your reading pleasure. Additionally, we give you the chance to win access to our next Closed Beta and one of our ultra-rare Spellborn Satanamura canvas. You see, this newsletter is once again brimming with interesting material.

Here is hoping you’ll have a good time with this issue!

TCoS Fanday – Attendee reports
The fan day for me really started the moment I arrived on Den Haag Central Station. I ganged up with GravGunner and Aluco there and headed for the office to soon meet the other 6 community members (Jewals, Sommy, Lerris, Sangre, Melkon and Phalanx). After waiting for a while, when we ringed the bell, Thee arrived to let us all in and that’s when the fun could really start. We started of with several presentations on certain aspects of the game. The first one was a great presentation on the Spellborn sound  effects and music from Matthew. He showed us some of the cool techniques that are used in the game and some awesome sound effects for the creatures for example. After that we got a presentation on what the world of Spellborn was going to look like. Naj-Treb showed us some amazing parts of the Spellborn world. In the meanwhile, while we were watching the presentation, Romano had drawn all of the community members in spellborn style, which all turned out amazing and fun. Romano also told us a bit on how concept art drawing works and showed us some awesome concept-art. Naj-Treb and Pesitbug also showed us cool stuff in their own presentations about the models and animations that are used in Spellborn. They showed us on how they model and animate and showing some great examples of them. Freeze also gave us a little presentation of their latest internal build with Chris. While Freeze was having fun slaughtering innocent creatures Chris told us about some awesome features that will be in the game as well and enlightened us on things that were happening on screen. Nearing the end of the fan day we were given the opportunity to try the demo out ourselves. We all had great fun whacking all the cool creatures and each other over the head with awesome weapons and skills. During some fun PvP even GravGunner managed to kill me (Biird) a few times (I let him win on purpose ofcourse). At the end of the day we all sat down for a Q&A with Nann-E, D_Code, Pestibug, Freeze and Thee where we got some more interesting information on the gameplay and some more features. After that some of the community members were sadly not able to stay but most could stick around for some quality time at the beach with the devs. Like watching the sunset hand in hand with pestibug and Naj-Treb, seeing Thee enjoying the local women at the beach bending over next to him and everyone enjoying their drinks and bitterballen... Ah yes, this day was simply perfect. Written by Biird

Freeze sighsReport 2
We have been invited to a meeting at the Spellborn office to have some close insights on the game. “It was a funday, it was a funny fanday” (special thanks to Pestibug for this quote).

It was nice to get an impression of the whole bunch of work, that has to be done to make a house looking like a house, to make a creature sounding dangerous, to make a monster moving like coming right out of a nightmare and to make the game being fun to play. It’s awesome to see a concept art done by Romano coming to life by the artists, the animators and the sound artists. It’s like seeing a child growing up and making the best out of it.

We had a lot fun on playing the demo, we had the chance to get a first sight of the character creation that is so huge you can’t decide which type of character you want to play first. Deciding which spells you want to have in your skilldeck and how to arrange them is a very important question, it influences your gameplay and is a strategic question you have to solve first before starting the game. It was fun watching the first PvP-fights taking place in Hawksmouth and seeing the first mobs to die by a deadly hit by the sword I have chosen.

Hearing the sound effects makes you diving right into the world of Spellborn. We also heard a nice preview of the work Within Temptation made for the game soundtrack and I am quite sure that another song they made a few ago will come true: “We are part of the story, we are part of the tale…”

Meeting all the guys you know out of the IRC, developers and gamers, was a nice experience, I have been waiting for. I hope that we will meet each other in the future to have some more fun and smalltalk, be prepared for the Games Convention in Leipzig from 23.08.-27.08.2006. Written by Jewals

FanArt Submissions
In this section we show you how you can get that immersive feel of TCoS’ universe thanks to FanArt submissions provided by our members. If you’ve got some creative juices flowing in you, make sure to submit your own work on the forums!

Few weeks ago, Daevi were revealed to the community. Their specific lore is already a hot-topic among community members, and their Birthsigns are now inspiration for FanArt submissions. Arctice provides us with great Birthsigns of his own imagination. You may find “Riddle” and “Nebula” Birthsigns in the topic located right here.

Daevi are sure a hot-topic. Snodge is also on the works and shows us his digital retouch skills with a neat wallpaper, showing Tempest Birthsign. Feel the mysterious atmosphere and dark past of the Daevi in this topic.

TCoS Contest
Every even numbered issue of our newsletters features a contest with great prizes! In this round we would like to ask you to go wild and make suggestions for the name of our “arena creature”. Visual material and information about this creature is available in a recent developer blog written by our Sound Designer Matthew Florianz.

Read through the blog, make up your mind what name you would use for a creature like this and send your idea to forums@tcos.com with "Newsletter 12 Contest” in the header. Don’t forget to include your real name and forum name!   The contest closes on Friday, 28th of July at 12:00 CEST, so make sure to get your entry in.

A group of developers will select five of the entries, which will then be put up in a poll on our official forums where the whole community can vote for their favorite. The selected suggestions will be awarded with access to our upcoming Beta phase, and the ultimate winner will receive one of our ultra-rare Satanamura canvas.

Please note: Every person can only submit ONE (1) entry for this contest!
