The Quarterstone Chronicle
, Issue 14

Welcome to issue fourteen of The Quarterstone Chronicle; the newsletter for the Spellborn community. This newsletter is also available in German and French.

Not only do we want to keep you up to date about all things Spellborn, but starting from this issue, we would like you to be part of the development of the game. No, you don’t have to paint your own textures or write your own AI sub routines, all you need to do is grab a drink, enjoy the newsletter by reading it and making some choices. Your choices will be registered in our database giving us valuable information about what you as a community member find important. It’s you we are making the game for after all!

In this issue we want to know a bit more about the explorer inside of you. Below we have listed four options and we would like you to select the one that suits your play style best. When you have selected your favorite option, a page will open with additional information showing what Spellborn has to offer you. If you want to read what’s behind all the options, feel free to do so, just remember that only your first choice will be registered in our database. The information gathered in this database will be shown on our website soon, offering some insights on the preferences of our community. Of course we also have some cool prizes to give away to the people that have participated, so let’s go exploring!

This week’s topic: Exploration.
Spellborn and MMOs in general allow players to leave the real world behind and dive deep into a fantasy world filled with mystery and adventure. We over here at Spellborn HQ are very curious how you like to devour your favorite virtual world. Let us know by making your selection from one of the options below.

Option 1: I’m an explorer! I boldly go where no man or daevi has gone before.

Option 2:  I’m a treasure hunter!
I search for every "X" that marks a spot.

Option 3:  I’m a fashion victim! I'm not just a man in tights.

Option 4: I’m a social animal! I'm with one for all, and all for one.

Of course we also welcome you to put additional comments in our forums. So feel free to share your stories, questions and expectations!

Community Q&A

1.  Can I get an idea of, or examples of what will be required to achieve Statues of your character(s) in Spellborn?
Statues in TCoS come in different ways. Players will be awarded for special accomplishments with a permanent statue in the statue district. As an example, being the first to finish an Ancestral Quest, leading you back in the past, could be such an accomplishements. Temporary statues are, for instance, rewarded to players that win an arena tournament.

 2. Will there be PVP servers with specific rule sets?
The Chronicles of Spellborn is a PvE and PvP game. We currently have no plans to split this since PvP is part of the integral game play like, for example, the PvP resource mines.

That said, we have not completely ruled out servers with specific rulesets. We will monitor our beta community closely and will adept, if necessary. A final announcement regarding servers and possible rulesets will be made availabe in time for the release of the game.

 3. Will it be possible to change the body in the character creation, to make bigger legs or broader shoulders, or can we just choose between pre made builds?
While players can select between different body types, they cannot change the size of individual parts of the body. Although we didn’t implement any scaling features for character creation, many of the NPCs and creatures found in the game have been scaled in different manners.

4. What will there be for guilds to achieve?
At release guilds can enjoy their own guildhall and obtain trophies that will give a statistic bonus to all members of the guild. The trophies can be won in arena tournaments against other guilds. To spice up the role-playing aspect of guilds, we have designed a unique guild armour set that will show the guild logo on each of the set’s pieces. Guilds can select the entire set or its single pieces to create a unique guild look. We are experimenting with some additional features, but those will be revealed when they have been tested and are ready to be part of the game.

5. What features will the in-game map offer?
The Chronicles of Spellborn will offer you a radar window showing you up-to-date information about your current position and your surroundings. A detailed and hand drawn map will provide you an overview of the shard you are currently on. A colored dot will indicate the position of your character in the world. If you are in a group, you’ll also be able to track down the location of other group members.
